Cut up canvas

Is it bad to destroy your old art pieces? Well not destroy but... repurpose so they might move on and out of your studio. I recently took so paintings I had done and cut them off their stretchers, trimmed them into squares and stitched them onto canvas bags. This made them into something new, but I worry it might lessen my existing works? I made sure not to include any signatures as if that would indicate they were finished works. One does have to admit that your work evolves so you might not want the older pieces to haunt you. Thoughts? Here is a picture of one painting cut into three bag covers.

These three all came from one painting that was painted on a really deep stretcher that no one ever could imagine fitting in their space.

Juried show at Uforge Gallery

Very happy to have gotten one of my new paintings into the juried show at UForge Gallery in Jamaica Plain. It is titled Be Calmed and it is of a house on the cape I have painted before for the way the light hits this classic house just fascinates me. I am currently working on another large panel of this houses clothesline which also grabs my eye.

Quick shot of the painting before it goes off to the gallery.

Grey winter and spots of color

The confetti from the Super Bowl Champion's Parade stood out in the piles of snow in Boston. Hardest time of year for landscape painters.
